Babu's Camp — Mkomazi's Character-Filled Alternative With Outstanding Food

Babu's Camp is a character-filled tented camp inside Mkomazi National Park — rebuilt from scratch in 2018 in the Miteweni Hills location with views over Dindira Dam and the Pare Mountains. Eight large tents are grouped apart for privacy around a central mess/restaurant tent shaded by a large tree where red-bellied parrots nest. The camp is 2.5 hours southeast of Arusha by road, or 40 minutes by air from Kilimanjaro.

TripAdvisor reviewers describe an extraordinary hospitality experience: hosts George and Lydia were "incredible — all the staff were so welcoming and kind." The food was "the best we had in 3 weeks of travel, and appealingly served." A repeat visitor says their "only regret is that we couldn't stay longer — sunsets are beautiful." One reviewer was "treated like royalty" with staff who "sang and danced for us on the final night and feasted us with a special cake." The park shares its northern border with Tsavo NP in Kenya, making this the first transfrontier national park in East Africa. Wildlife includes elephant, buffalo, zebra, lesser kudu, gerenuk, wild dog and black rhino (sanctuary visits by appointment only).
