Kilwa Beach Lodge sits with sea views in Kilwa Masoko, 3.7 miles (6km) from the Ruins of Kilwa Kisiwani — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and once one of the most powerful Swahili trading city-states on the East African coast. A guest review describes "a stunningly beautiful location by the sea. Great breakfast. Good tasty dinners (one meat, one fish option each night). We stayed in the 'eco cottage' which was brilliant." Another notes the lodge is "off the beaten path — staff were very helpful, even sending a motorcycle to guide us to the lodge after dark, since Google Maps doesn't show all the roads in the area."
