Sayari Camp — Asilia's Flagship in the Northern Serengeti
Sayari Camp is Asilia Africa's original flagship property and one of the most acclaimed safari camps in the Serengeti. Positioned in the Kogatende area of the northern Serengeti, just 10 minutes from the airstrip and within easy driving distance of multiple Mara River crossing points, Sayari delivers front-row access to the Great Migration's most dramatic chapter — the river crossings — while maintaining year-round game viewing that includes resident lion prides, black rhino, leopard, elephant and over 500 bird species.
The camp was comprehensively rebuilt and upgraded, and the current iteration is a genuinely luxurious operation: 15 tented suites split across two wings (each with its own lounge and dining area), a rim-flow swimming pool overlooking the plains, a spa, a library with cultural exhibits on the local Kuria tribe, and — uniquely — the Serengeti's first solar-powered microbrewery.
Location and Wildlife
The northern Serengeti around Kogatende is one of the least-visited sectors of the park, despite hosting the migration's most iconic spectacle. From July to October, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra mass along the Mara River, building courage before plunging into the crocodile-infested water. Sayari's proximity to several crossing points means that on a good day during peak season, guests can witness multiple crossings. From November to March, the herds move south but the northern Serengeti retains excellent resident wildlife — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, hyena and the area's small population of black rhino — with almost no other visitors.
Camp Design
The 15 suites feature mahogany floors, king or twin beds with fine linen and colourful cushions, walk-in showers, freestanding bathtubs overlooking the plains, and outdoor showers on private wraparound verandas. The family suite has two en-suite bedrooms connected by a shared lounge and deck, with the children's room sleeping up to three. Three standard suites can be configured as triples for smaller families. Each wing of the camp has its own dining and lounge tent, which keeps the atmosphere intimate despite the camp's size. A rim-flow pool provides a spectacular foreground to sunset drinks.
Activities
Twice-daily game drives in custom 4x4 vehicles are the core activity. Walking safaris (minimum age 12, available June–January) offer ground-level encounters with the northern Serengeti's woodland and kopje habitats. Hot-air balloon safaris provide aerial views of the migration and landscape. The spa offers treatments between drives. Cultural visits to local Kuria communities can be arranged. A dedicated photographic vehicle with 360-degree views and low-angle positions is available for serious photographers.
Who Is Sayari Best For?
Sayari is the Serengeti camp for travellers who want the most complete luxury experience without sacrificing wildlife intensity. It suits couples, honeymooners, photographers, and families who want space, quality and migration access in one package. The two-wing design means the camp never feels crowded. The Retreats — two exclusive-use two-bedroom units with private chef, guide and pool — elevate it further for families or groups seeking total privacy.

WhatsApp UsSafariBando's view
Sayari is the best all-round luxury camp in the Serengeti. It has the location (close to Mara River crossing points), the accommodation (genuine luxury with bathtubs, pool and spa), the guiding (Asilia's most experienced northern Serengeti team), and the year-round wildlife (black rhino in the off-season is a genuine differentiator). The solar-powered microbrewery is a fun novelty, but the substance beneath it is a camp that has been voted one of East Africa's top safari properties year after year. If you can only do one Serengeti camp and budget allows, make it Sayari.— The SafariBando team
