9-Days Tanzania Safari to Katavi, Mahale and Gombe

Day 1: Arrival in Dar es salaam via Julius Nyerere airport

Welcoming to Tanzania! The soul of Africa!
You will have a refreshing welcome by our expert guide who will pick you up from Julius Nyerere airport and transfer to your place of accommodation in Tanzania’s capital, Dar es salaam.
If time allows, you may undertake a short city tour to discover the hidden gems of Dar es salaam.

Day 2: Depart from Dar Es Salaam by Air to Katavi National Park

From Dar Es Salaam transfer by shared charter plane (two hours), fly to Katavi National Park (via Mpanda airport). Upon arrival, have lunch and go for an afternoon game drive and late afternoon/evening walking safari in Katavi national park. Dinner and overnight stay at park bandas.

Day 3: Full safari experience in Katavi national park

Take breakfast, then spend another day exploring the Katavi floodplain.
Afternoon game drive to Katavi’s inner side. Dinner and overnight your place of stay. Here you will be able to experience a larger variety of animal and floral species more intimately.

Day 4: Exploration in Katavi national park

Enjoy yet another day in Katavi national park, Tanzania's second-largest park; Other than a game drive in the morning, visitors can engage in bird watching. With over 400 species of birds, Katavi is a great place for birdwatchers. Large flocks of storks like saddle bills, open-billed and spoonbills as well as African fish eagles, Bateleurs, lilac-breasted rollers, crested barbets, and paradise flycatchers are but a few on the long list of birds in Katavi.

Day 5: Depart for the Mahale Mountains

Take breakfast; then take a shared chartered flight (one-hour) to the Mahale Mountains. Transfer in boat along Lake Tanganyika. Afternoon foot-walking safari in the Mahale Mountains or an optional chimp trekking experience. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 6: Mahale mountains: Chimpanzee trekking and other activities

Spend the whole day bird-watching and chimpanzee tracking in Mahale Mountains.
Picnic lunches in the mountain forest
Afternoon walking safaris in the mountains followed by late afternoon leisure time along the beach on Lake Tanganyika. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 7: Half-day in Mahale mountains and transfer to Gombe stream N/P

Transfer to the Lake for a boat to Kigoma town after breakfast. You will be met upon arrival and transfer to Kigoma Hilltop Hotel. Have some Hot Lunch at the hotel after which you will be transferred back to the Lake for a boat to Gombe Stream National Park. Arrive for Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 8: Explore Gombe stream N/Park

Depart after breakfast for some Chimpanzee Tracking activity in the fores, game viewing, bird-watching, climb to Kakombe Water Falls time permitting or hike to Jane’s peak in this national park. Return to your place of accommodation for dinner & overnight.

Day 9: Transfer to Kigoma airport and fly to Dar Es Salam

Transfer to the Lake after breakfast for a boat to Kigoma town. Met upon arrival and transfer to Kigoma Hilltop Hotel for hot Lunch. Do some city tour of Kigoma and Ujiji town. Transfer to the airport for a flight back to Dar es salaam.
