Eunoto Retreat — styled as E Unoto — is a secluded, Maasai-themed lodge situated on private land near Mto wa Mbu, overlooking the small Lake Miwaleni adjacent to the Lake Manyara floodplain. The lodge is positioned deliberately off the main tourist circuit: the access road passes through active Maasai bomas and cattle grazing land, and arriving at the property — set discreetly into the trees — carries a sense of discovery that more visible escarpment lodges cannot provide.

Eunoto invests meaningfully in the surrounding community. The lodge assists with provision of educational and health services for local villagers, and many of the staff are Maasai who live within the surrounding bomas. Butlers assigned to each guest are typically Maasai community members, and conversations with them — about cattle, land, traditional life and the tourism economy — are frequently cited by guests as one of the most memorable parts of the stay.

Accommodation

Twenty-five bungalows are designed in authentic Maasai fashion, adorned with elegant furnishings, carved wooden details and beadwork that reflect the local cultural aesthetic. Rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms, and private porches with views over the lake and surrounding bush. Electricity is available during morning and evening hours only — the lodge uses solar power and minimises generator use, making it genuinely eco-conscious rather than using the label as marketing. Four honeymoon suites and four handicap-accessible suites are available.

The main lodge area is positioned for sunset views over the Rift Valley, with a swimming pool and restaurant serving a mix of Tanzanian and international dishes. The waterfall pool — a cascading pool feature built into the landscape — is a distinctive element particularly enjoyed by families. Evening acrobatic and Maasai dance performances are a regular feature.
