Jimbiza Lodge — Rufiji Riverbank Seclusion in Nyerere's Buffer Zone

Selous Jimbiza Camp (listed as Jimbiza Lodge) is an affordable camp located on the banks of the Rufiji River in the buffer zone of Nyerere National Park, 4km from Mtemere Gate and airstrip. The camp has been built to blend into the riverine bush environment, and its 14 accommodation units include three distinctive types: Riverside Bandas, Treetop Rooms and standard Camping. At the camp, guests can encounter blue monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, monitor lizards, bushbuck, suni antelope and Zanj elephant shrews within the grounds — and hippos wallowing in the shallows, crocodiles on the sandbanks and birds soaring over the Rufiji from every riverside seat.

A 2025 TripAdvisor review captures the camp's character: "A banda with a wonderful view on the Rufiji river and the sunset. Very comfortable with bathroom and good bed. The dinners were copious (3 courses) and delicious — they served me the best steak I have never eaten. At the breakfast: eggs, fresh juice, bread, toasts, jam, honey, fruits. At the evening a camp fire to relax with only the noises of hippos and bush babies." Staff Suzan and Flaviano are mentioned by name. Jimbiza is well positioned outside the park boundary, so park fees only apply when you enter for game drives — useful for budget travellers. Cash only.
