Nyikani Migration Camp Ndutu

Nyikani Migration Camp Ndutu is set amongst light acacia woodland close to Lake Ndutu, in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area just south of Serengeti National Park. As a mobile camp, Nyikani follows the Great Migration twice a year, relocating between Kogatende in the Northern Serengeti (June–November) and Ndutu (December–March), so guests are well placed for both the Mara River crossings and the wildebeest calving season.

Tents

The camp offers 10–12 spacious tented rooms, including standard and family configurations, each with an en-suite bathroom comprising a flush toilet, double wash basins with running water and a safari-style bucket shower. Room fabrics use handwoven African designs, and the furniture is commissioned and crafted by artisans in Arusha.

Communal Areas

The communal areas are housed within two tents: a 64 sqm tent combining living and dining spaces with lounge furniture, formal dining tables, wood and canvas decor with colourful fabrics and animal-print cushions, plus a front veranda; and a smaller tent housing a library, a well-stocked bar and a restroom area. A fire pit outside is the focal point for evening storytelling.

Location and Wildlife

Ndutu, on the Ngorongoro side of the southern Serengeti ecosystem, is one of the best areas in Tanzania for the February calving season, when roughly 8,000 wildebeest calves are born daily, drawing high concentrations of lions, leopards and cheetah. The camp operates off-grid on a custom-built solar power system.

SafariBando's view

Nyikani Migration Camp Ndutu’s genuinely mobile model – relocating between Kogatende and Ndutu to track the Migration – combined with handwoven fabrics and locally crafted Arusha furniture gives it an authentic, well-considered character at a mid-range price. Reviews highlight close night-time wildlife encounters (zebra and wildebeest grazing near tents, lions and hyenas audible) with reassuring 24/7 security escorts. The February calving season position in Ndutu makes it a strong choice for that specific window.
