Tarangire Osupuko Lodge โ Natural Paradise in the Burunge Community Area
Tarangire Osupuko Lodge takes its name from the local Maasai word for "natural paradise" โ and guests consistently confirm that the name is apt. The lodge is located in the Burunge Wildlife Management Area (WMA) approximately 5 kilometres from Tarangire National Park's main gate, and is operated by Osupuko Lodges in partnership with the local Maasai community. A larger share of the tourism fees paid here flows directly back to community development projects than at standard national park lodges.
The lodge is run largely by local Maasai staff who are not performing a cultural role but living it: they escort guests after dark (large animals move through the unfenced WMA regularly), share genuine knowledge of the landscape and wildlife, and offer cultural activities โ Maasai village visits, bead-making demonstrations, traditional dances, goat BBQ โ as an authentic extension of daily life rather than a tourist product.
Accommodation
Eight spacious bungalows designed in a refined Maasai hut style, each overlooking the Tarangire National Park. Four additional family bungalows accommodate larger groups. All have en-suite facilities, big balconies with park views, and handcrafted Maasai furniture. The pool is consistently praised in reviews as one of the cleanest and most scenically positioned in the Tarangire area โ with direct views over the park and wildlife, it is a compelling place to spend the midday heat. The restaurant and bar are open-sided, with park vistas that mean dining often coincides with wildlife viewing.
Activities
Morning and afternoon game drives into Tarangire National Park. Night game drives in the WMA area โ permitted because the lodge is in a community area rather than the national park. Early morning footprint walks with Maasai guides. Biking through Kakoi village. Guided walks with Maasai escorts. Hot-air balloon safaris over Tarangire. Cultural village visits. Goat BBQ experiences.
Who Is Osupuko Best For?
Osupuko is excellent value for travellers who want Maasai community authenticity, a pool with park views, night drives and cultural activities at a budget-to-mid-range price. The community ownership model means tourism spending is genuinely redistributive. Families are well accommodated by the four family bungalows. Honeymooners have a dedicated package including special decorations and dinner setups.

Osupuko Lodge is one of the most genuine community-run lodges in the Tarangire ecosystem. The Maasai involvement is not performative โ these are the landowners, the guides and the staff, and the tourism revenue flows back to them directly. The pool with park views is genuinely photogenic. Night drives in the WMA are a significant bonus over lodges inside the national park. For travellers on a budget who want authentic community connection and night-drive access alongside standard Tarangire game drives, Osupuko is our recommendation.โ The SafariBando team
