Singita Faru Faru Lodge โ Ultra-Luxury on the Grumeti River
Singita Faru Faru Lodge sits on the banks of the Grumeti River within the 350,000-acre Singita Grumeti Reserve โ a private concession on the western corridor of the Serengeti ecosystem. This is one of Africa's most exclusive safari addresses: a private reserve with no public access, strict vehicle limits, and a wildlife management programme that has restored the Grumeti from a depleted hunting area into one of the most game-rich landscapes in Tanzania.
Faru Faru (Swahili for "rhino") is the most relaxed and family-friendly of Singita's Grumeti properties, designed with an organic, botanist's-camp aesthetic that feels less formal than the neighbouring Sasakwa Lodge or Sabora Tented Camp. But make no mistake โ this is ultra-luxury safari at Africa's highest level: Michelin-calibre dining, a world-class wine cellar, private vehicles, off-road driving, walking safaris, and a level of service that has earned Singita consistent recognition as Africa's leading safari company.
Location and Wildlife
The Grumeti Reserve occupies a critical section of the western migration corridor. Between May and July, the Great Migration herds pour through the reserve on their northward journey, crossing the Grumeti River and its resident crocodile population. Outside migration season, the reserve's conservation programme has built extraordinary resident wildlife populations โ lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, and a reintroduced black rhino population. The private status means no public vehicles, no park-gate hours, and off-road driving permitted throughout โ translating to uncrowded, flexible game viewing that national park camps cannot match.
Lodge Design
Nine suites cascade down a gentle hillside overlooking the Grumeti River, each with floor-to-ceiling glass, private plunge pool or deck, air conditioning, and a contemporary organic design that uses natural stone, timber and canvas. The family suite has two bedrooms; a separate two-bedroom pool villa (Faru Faru Villa) offers even more space and privacy. The main lodge includes a gourmet restaurant with interactive kitchen, a bar-lounge, a wine cellar stocked with Singita's renowned collection of South African and international wines, a rim-flow swimming pool, a spa and wellness centre, and a boutique.
Activities
Twice-daily game drives in custom open vehicles with personal guides form the core programme. Off-road driving allows close approaches to wildlife. Walking safaris with armed rangers explore the riverine forest and surrounding woodland. Night drives reveal nocturnal species. Hot-air balloon safaris offer aerial perspective. Wine tastings, stargazing sessions, community visits to local conservation projects, and horseback safaris (seasonal) round out an activity list that is among the most comprehensive in East Africa. Children of all ages are welcome, with babysitting and tailored family activities available.
Who Is Singita Faru Faru Best For?
Faru Faru is for travellers who want the absolute highest level of safari luxury without the formality of a traditional five-star lodge. The organic design, riverside setting and family-friendly ethos make it warmer and more accessible than many ultra-premium competitors. It suits couples, honeymooners, wine enthusiasts, photographers, and families who want no compromise on either wildlife quality or accommodation standard. The price reflects the exclusivity โ rates start above $2,000 per person per night โ but for what is delivered, it represents the pinnacle of East African safari.

Singita Faru Faru is the most complete luxury safari lodge in the Serengeti ecosystem โ and arguably in all of East Africa. The private Grumeti Reserve eliminates every frustration of national park safari (crowds, rigid hours, no off-road) while the conservation programme has rebuilt wildlife density to extraordinary levels. The wine cellar alone would be notable in a city restaurant; in the middle of the Serengeti, it is remarkable. The price is at the top of the market, but Singita consistently delivers the product that justifies it. If budget is not the constraint, this is the Serengeti lodge.โ The SafariBando team
