Vuma Hills Tented Camp — Mikumi's Forest Hillside Retreat

Vuma Hills Tented Camp is part of the Foxes Safari collection — perched above the trees in the Vuma Mountains on the south-west side of Mikumi National Park. The camp's 16 tented rooms are set in a densely forested area on large wooden decks raised on stilts, each with a thatched roof and a veranda looking out over the sweeping Mkata plains below. The hillside forest setting makes Vuma Hills one of Tanzania's best places to spot nocturnal animals on night drives — a speciality noted by Expert Africa.

The camp was completely renovated in 2015. Solar water heaters in each room use natural energy for hot water. Full board plus meals and activities included. Reviewers praise the guide Fraida as "enthusiastic, fun and knowledgeable" and manager Abdul for "going the extra mile." The camp is just 6km from Mikumi's main gate with a pool and dining area with plains views. Sister camp Stanley's Kopje is the preferred choice for kopje views and the Mwanamboga game area; Vuma Hills is the better choice for the forest hillside experience and nocturnal wildlife.
