Nimali Tarangire — The Underground Hide and the Private Concession

Nimali Tarangire sits in its own private concession adjacent to the eastern boundary of Tarangire National Park — meaning there are no fences between the concession, the surrounding Wildlife Management Area and the park itself, and animals wander freely between all three. Eight tented suites overlook a dry riverbed bordered by dramatic granite boulders and ancient baobab trees, with views across the landscape that feel prehistoric in scale.

The camp's most unusual feature is its underground hide — a subterranean viewing room built into the ground at a waterhole where animals come to drink. From inside the hide, guests observe elephants, lion, giraffe and other wildlife at eye level from below, in conditions that allow photography and viewing without disturbing the animals. This is genuinely rare in East Africa and is consistently mentioned as a Nimali highlight.

Accommodation

Eight tented suites with private decks and en-suite bathrooms with indoor/outdoor showers and open-air design. Contemporary organic design using local fabrics, recycled glass and natural materials. Two family suites connect via lounge areas and feature private plunge pools. The main camp has a spa, swimming pool, library, lounge and boma dining area. Night game drives are available in the WMA. Rate includes full board, house drinks, laundry, transfers from nearest airstrip, scheduled game drives and sundowners. WMA fees apply additionally.
