Oliverβs Camp
Oliverβs Camp, run by Asilia Africa, was established in 1992 by Paul Oliver and remains one of the pioneering camps of southern Tarangire National Park. Set in an exclusive region of the park, far from the day-tripper traffic near the main entrance, the camp neighbours the dense Silale Swamp and overlooks the Minyonyo Pools floodplain β widely regarded as Tarangireβs best game-viewing area. Oliverβs Camp received a TripAdvisor Travelersβ Choice Award in 2023.
Tents
Accommodation is spread across two wings totalling 10 spacious tents with solid wooden furniture, a permanent feel and elevated views over the Tarangire River course. En-suite bathrooms have running hot and cold water, flush toilets and proper showers overlooking the Minyonyo floodplains. Two family tents in the larger wing each have an adjoining twin bedroom with its own smaller en-suite bathroom (children aged 5 and over welcome).
Camp Areas and Activities
The camp combines the comfort of a permanent lodge with the intimacy of a bush camp: a dining, lounge and library tent with solid wooden furniture and books on the surrounding nature and wildlife, plus a fireplace for evening gatherings under the Tarangire sky. Walking safaris are a particular speciality here, alongside night game drives, fly camping, picnics and hot-air balloon safaris over the Tarangire plains at sunrise. The long-serving camp crew bring deep knowledge of the park.

Oliver's Camp is one of Tarangire's defining properties β a 1992-founded Asilia camp whose remote southern position next to the Silale Swamp and Minyonyo Pools floodplain delivers some of the park's best wildlife viewing, far from the crowds near the main gate. The combination of permanent-lodge comfort (proper showers, solid wooden furniture, library tent) with bush-camp intimacy, plus a genuine specialism in walking safaris and night drives, makes it a standout choice for travellers wanting an authentic Tarangire experience. The 2023 TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Award reflects sustained quality.β The SafariBando team
