This 3-day safari gives a genuine chance to see the Big Four in Mikumi National Park, Tanzania's fourth-largest national park and the most accessible from Dar es Salaam. Spanning roughly 3,230 square kilometres between the Uluguru Mountains to the north and the Lumango Mountains to the southeast, Mikumi's centrepiece is the Mkata Floodplain, an open horizon of grassland frequently compared to the more famous Serengeti Plains.
Lions survey their grassy kingdom, along with the zebra, wildebeest, impala and buffalo herds that migrate across it, from the flattened tops of termite mounds, or during the rains, from perches high in the trees. Giraffe forage in the isolated acacia stands fringing the Mkata River. This itinerary travels by road from Dar es Salaam, though it can also be customized to fly directly to Mikumi Airstrip from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, contact us for details if you'd prefer that option. If you only have 2 days available, our 2-Day Mikumi National Park Safari From Dar es Salaam covers the essentials in a shorter window.
