4-Day Camping Kruger National Park

You are collected from the OR Tambo International Airport bus terminus (or a pickup point within 5km), where you board the safari vehicle. After a short introduction to the truck’s facilities and the completion of indemnity forms, depart for Kruger National Park. As the route drops off the Highveld escarpment into the warmer, almost tropical Lowveld, the scenery becomes spectacular, and there’s a standing prize for the first guest to spot an animal once you enter the park. On arrival in camp, everyone pitches in to set up tents before an alfresco dinner around the fire, with a daily sighting board kept on the back wall of the truck to track everything spotted along the way.

An early wake-up call brings coffee and rusks, followed by a breakfast of muesli and fresh yoghurt eaten on the game vehicle to make the most of the morning light. The morning drive, around 140 kilometres and 6 hours, follows rivers and waterholes where game gathers to drink, reaching camp around midday for lunch. With the afternoon drive not starting until 3pm, there’s time to relax at the park shop, by the pool, or with a siesta. The afternoon drive runs into the late afternoon, followed by another alfresco dinner in camp, with the option of pointing out constellations in the night sky, weather permitting.

A further full day of game driving through Central Kruger, following the same early-start, midday-rest, afternoon-drive rhythm as the day before, with plenty of time to relax in camp between drives. Travellers who want a different perspective on the park can ask about an optional night drive or guided bush walk, both well suited to this stretch of the trip.
