Mabata Makali Lodge is situated near Madogoro Rangers post at the border of Ruaha National Park, about 28km from Msembe Airstrip and 22km from the main entrance gate. TripAdvisor reviews are enthusiastic: "The staff got me feeling at home. The Maasai guards made my few nights in tents relaxing. The bonfire! Walk safari, swimming pool, the trip to Ruaha National Park — not forgetting the amazing BBQ party set at Ilusi River Sand! That was the most precious set ever. And the food is wow!" A second reviewer notes "food was very good, lodges are large with comfortable beds and nice bathroom, staff was incredible — laundry done for free."

The lodge offers both luxury tented accommodation and stone chalet rooms. A swimming pool, bush walks, game drives to Ruaha NP and the unique Ilusi River sand BBQ experience make it a charming outside-the-park option. The surrounding area is "1–2km outside the national park in the middle of nature" — giraffe, impala, baboons and a 2-metre cobra have been seen on the way to/from the park gate.
