Mwagusi Safari Camp — Ruaha's Most Loved Owner-Run Camp

Mwagusi Safari Camp is owner-run by Chris and Kiasile Fox on the banks of the seasonal Mwagusi River in the prime game viewing area of Ruaha National Park. Among experienced safari travellers it occupies a rare position — consistently described as "the best in Ruaha, probably Tanzania" by repeat visitors across multiple decades. The Africa Specialists call it "without doubt our favourite camp in Ruaha — a rare occurrence these days, a camp where the owner is on hand."

The camp is small and intimate with tented bandas overlooking the Mwagusi sand river. Meals are prepared from the family's organic garden. Guides are described as having "an encyclopedic knowledge of birds and plants" and "ESP to find even very elusive animals." A 2025–2026 TripAdvisor review mentions "leagues above the game while being intimate and comfortable. Hugely knowledgeable and enthusiastic owner/managers Chris and Kiasile on hand throughout."
