Nyota Luxury Camp — Stars, Hippos and Maasai Wisdom on the Orangi River
Nyota means "stars" in Swahili — a fitting name for a camp where guests report sleeping under extraordinary open skies beside the Orangi River in central Serengeti. A February 2025 TripAdvisor review describes a "fabulous pool to relax in after a day's safari, and really helpful staff. Meeting and talking with Maasai staff members was brilliant and we learnt more about their way of life and respect for animals. They were really helpful in pointing out animals, including a pair of hippos in our garden!!" And: "The setting, the animals that roam within sight of the pool or bar, really are the icing on the cake."
The camp has 10 stilted units along the Orangi River, which "attracts wildlife to the camp's borders." Each tent features canvas sides, polished timber floors and organic furnishings. The camp is particularly praised for its Maasai cultural programming — staff members who engage guests in cultural exchange. A lounge with "cozy firepit for evening storytelling and sundowners" and WiFi in communal areas complete the offering.
