Serengeti Tortilis Camp β Solid Mid-Range in the Heart of the Serengeti
Serengeti Tortilis Camp is a permanent tented lodge located in the central Serengeti, northwest of Seronera β one of the park's prime game-viewing areas. Operated by Tortilis Camps Tanzania (part of the Tanganyika Wilderness Camps collection), it offers a mid-range Serengeti experience that balances comfort, location and price in a way that makes it accessible to a wider range of travellers than the premium camps that dominate most Serengeti recommendations.
The camp sits on a low hillside overlooking the Serengeti plains, with unobstructed views that allow guests to watch wildlife passing from the deck, the pool or their tent veranda. The central location puts the camp within reach of the Seronera Valley (resident game year-round), the Maasai Kopjes (famous for lion and cheetah perching), the Grumeti River, and the Olduvai Gorge museum β more ecological variety from a single base than most Serengeti camps can offer.
Accommodation
The camp has approximately 25 spacious tents built on raised wooden platforms under thatched roofs. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with indoor facilities and an outdoor shower, comfortable beds with mosquito netting, and a private terrace with views over the plains. The design is modern African β bright fabrics, natural materials, and well-lit interiors. Family tents connect two rooms with shared facilities and a private porch. WiFi is available in the main lodge area.
The main lodge is an elevated open-sided structure with a lounge, restaurant and deck offering panoramic Serengeti views. An infinity swimming pool provides a spectacular foreground to the plains below. A campfire area is the evening social hub. Meals are prepared on-site β continental breakfast, buffet lunch, and a set three-course dinner. The kitchen can accommodate dietary requirements with advance notice.
Activities
Morning, afternoon and full-day game drives in open-sided 4x4 vehicles are the core offering. Hot-air balloon safaris can be arranged at additional cost. Cultural visits to nearby Maasai villages give context to the pastoralist communities who live alongside the park. Bush breakfasts and sundowner drinks in scenic locations within the park are popular add-ons.
Who Is Serengeti Tortilis Best For?
Tortilis is a strong choice for travellers who want a comfortable, well-located Serengeti camp without the $1,000+ per-night price tag of the premium brands. It suits first-time safari visitors, families with children of all ages, group travel, and anyone who prefers to allocate budget to more nights in the bush rather than fewer nights in ultra-luxury. The 25-tent size is larger than boutique camps, which means a more social atmosphere but occasionally more vehicles at popular sightings.

Serengeti Tortilis Camp occupies the mid-range sweet spot that is surprisingly hard to find in the Serengeti β a comfortable, well-located camp at a price point significantly below the Asilia/Singita/andBeyond tier. The central Serengeti location gives year-round game viewing and migration access during the shoulder months. It is not as intimate or design-led as the premium camps, and the larger size means a less exclusive feel, but for the price and the location, it delivers solid value. Combine it with a Tortilis property in Tarangire or Ngorongoro for a complete Northern Circuit at mid-range budget.β The SafariBando team
