Singita Sabora Tented Camp is the most romantic of Singita's three Grumeti Reserve properties, and a fundamentally different character from the Edwardian grandeur of Sasakwa Lodge or the contemporary eco-style of Mara River. Sabora is unashamedly styled after the golden age of African exploration: Bedouin canvas tents at ground-level on the open savannah, Persian rugs, antique mahogany travel chests, brass-fittings, silver candlelight at dinner, and day beds scattered on outdoor salas to watch wildlife walk past at eye-level. It is retro-luxurious and completely immersive.

The camp sits in the 350,000-acre Singita Grumeti Reserve — the same private concession shared by Sasakwa Lodge and Faru Faru, managed by Singita in partnership with the non-profit Grumeti Fund. The conservation programme here has transformed previously depleted land into one of the most game-rich private areas in Tanzania, with reintroduced black rhino, thriving elephant herds, and exceptional big cat populations alongside the annual Great Migration passage between May and July.

Accommodation

Nine Bedouin canvas tents sit at savannah level, elevated enough to have unobstructed views but low enough that giraffe necks and elephant flanks occasionally drift past at veranda height. Each tent is furnished with antique mahogany travel chests, Persian rugs, traditional Maasai blankets, brass fixtures, and en-suite bathrooms with bathtubs. Private decks with day beds face the open plains — the outdoor living area is intended for use as much as the interior. Two treatment rooms provide spa facilities, either in-camp or in the privacy of your own tent. A sparkling plunge pool, gym, boutique and gallery, and lounge-with-television complete the facilities.

Activities

Game drives in open custom Land Rovers explore the Grumeti Reserve's diverse habitats: open savannah, woodland, seasonal rivers, and the Grumeti River itself. Off-road driving allows close approaches to wildlife. Night drives illuminate a different ecosystem — bat-eared foxes, aardvarks, genets, porcupines and hunting predators. Walking safaris with armed guides explore the reserve on foot. Mountain biking on the reserve's trails is a distinctive activity not available at most Serengeti lodges. Lawn croquet and badminton provide lighter recreation. The Singita wine cellar and tasting programme is shared across all Grumeti properties.
