Ubuyu, a Banyan Tree Escape, is an intimate new safari retreat opening August 2026 in Ruaha National Park — Tanzania’s wild heart, where East Africa’s savannahs meet Southern Africa’s miombo woodlands. Expansive, artisan-crafted villas overlook the Great Ruaha River, harmoniously woven into the open savannah. “Ubuyu” is the Swahili word for the baobab tree — an ancient, life-giving presence that defines the Ruaha landscape.

Guests are guided by a dedicated Escape Host who curates personalised adventures, oversees sustainable communal dining at an open kitchen, and connects guests with ancient healing rituals. The ethos is unfiltered, untamed and freeing — nature as intended.

Two Bedroom River View Villa

A spacious two-bedroom plunge pool villa of 350 sqm with outdoor decks and living areas designed for sharing moments in the Ruaha wilderness. Bedrooms face east for sunrise; the lounge and pool deck face west for sunset over the river and savannah.

Ubuyu Private Retreat

The signature Private Retreat of 452 sqm offers three independent suites with premier Great Ruaha River views, generous gathering spaces, a 360° rooftop terrace, and a spacious living area centred around a firepit with a show kitchen and optional private chef service. Accommodates up to six guests.

Ruaha is Tanzania’s largest national park — home to Africa’s largest lion population, vast elephant herds, endangered wild dogs, and over 570 bird species. The Great Ruaha River draws extraordinary concentrations of wildlife to its banks. Unlike the northern circuit, Ruaha sees very few visitors, delivering an uncrowded, immersive safari experience.
