3-Day Mikumi National Park Safari from Dar es Salaam

Overview

This 3-day road safari from Dar es Salaam gives you more time to explore Mikumi National Park than a day trip allows, including areas such as the Mkata floodplains and Chomgore, known locally as the place of pythons. Unlike the busier northern parks during peak season, Mikumi offers authentic wilderness with generally fewer vehicles on the tracks.

Tour Highlights

  • Two full days of game drives across the open floodplains and diverse habitats of Mikumi National Park
  • The Mkata floodplains and Chomgore area, known for pythons and wide-open wildlife viewing
  • Strong odds of elephant, buffalo, lion, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest
  • An optional morning of game viewing on the final day before the drive back
  • A straightforward road safari with no flights required, departing from Dar es Salaam

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi?

The drive takes approximately 3.5 to 4 hours each way, so an early departure on Day 1 is standard to maximise time in the park.

Does this tour depart from Zanzibar?

No, this is an overland road safari that starts and ends in Dar es Salaam. If you're based in Zanzibar, you would need to travel to Dar es Salaam first — either by ferry or by short flight. A separate fly-in Mikumi safari departing directly from Zanzibar is also available.

What wildlife is commonly seen in Mikumi?

Mikumi's open floodplains regularly produce elephant, lion, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and a range of antelope species. The Chomgore area is particularly known for python sightings. As with any wildlife safari, no individual sighting can be guaranteed.

The price covers transport to and from the park, all park entry fees and activities, an English-speaking guide, accommodation and full board, and meals as specified. International flights, drinks, tips and personal insurance are not included.
