3-Day Mikumi Safari from Dar es Salaam by SGR Train

Early morning hotel pick-up at approximately 4:30 AM for transfer to the SGR station in Dar es Salaam, in time for the 6:00 AM train to Morogoro (approximately 2.5 hours). Your guide meets you at Morogoro station and drives to Mikumi National Park. A morning game drive through the park's open plains follows, where elephants, giraffes, lions, zebras, and the park's renowned hippo pools are all commonly encountered. After a picnic lunch at one of the park's designated sites, the afternoon game drive continues until evening and accommodation check-in.

After breakfast, a full day of game drives in Mikumi National Park. Mikumi's extensive flat plains give outstanding visibility for wildlife sightings and photography. The park supports some of the best lion populations in southern Tanzania, alongside large herds of elephants, buffalo, and impala, and the permanent hippo pools along the Mkata River. A picnic lunch is taken at one of the park's scenic sites before the afternoon drive continues until evening.

The morning begins with a guided walking safari in Mikumi National Park led by a park ranger. Walking allows you to observe wildlife at close range, identify animal tracks, learn about plants and the bush ecosystem, and experience the park in a fundamentally different way from a vehicle. After the walk, a visit to a nearby Maasai community provides an introduction to traditional pastoralist culture, with a short cultural performance and the opportunity to meet local people. After the visit, the drive to Morogoro station connects you to the afternoon SGR train back to Dar es Salaam, arriving in the evening.
