Etosha National Park

You are collected from your guesthouse or hotel at 7:15am and brought to the group meeting point for a pre-departure talk and to meet the rest of the group. A brief stop at Otjiwarongo lets you gather any last-minute supplies before continuing on to Etosha National Park with a light lunch pack en route. Enjoy an afternoon game drive through the park, visiting waterholes in search of predators, zebra, giraffe, elephant, rhino and a wide range of antelope species, arriving at your lodge just before sunset. A visit to the flood-lit waterhole is highly recommended, while dinner is prepared by your guide over an open fire.

Your first game drive starts at sunrise to catch predators while they are still active, visiting several waterholes along the way. A second, mid-morning drive takes you to the impressive Etosha Pan, the "great white place," where you can step out of the vehicle and experience this 4,500 square kilometre saline desert before continuing the search for the Big Four. Return to camp for a delicious lunch prepared by your guide, with time for a dip in the pool or to relax by the camp waterhole. In the afternoon, a final game drive crosses the park toward its eastern side, calling in at several well-known waterholes before leaving the park ahead of sunset. Overnight accommodation is just outside the park in comfortable, spacious twin-share rooms with modern en-suite facilities, an ideal spot to relax and take in the surrounding scenery. Your guide prepares a fantastic dinner, and an early night is recommended.

You have the chance to meet Herero, Himba and Damara women selling handmade arts and crafts to support their rural families. A light roadside lunch is served en route in the shadow of the Brandberg, Namibia’s tallest mountain, with the chance to interact with some of the colourful local characters who call this harsh environment home. On the drive down the Skeleton Coast, explore the remains of a small shipwreck before arriving in Swakopmund in the late afternoon, with time to explore this quaint seaside town on foot. Your guide is happy to recommend a good restaurant for your evening meal, or you can join a group meal at your own expense.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a group or private tour?

This itinerary runs as a small-group departure, with collection from your accommodation to meet the rest of the group before setting off.

What's the single traveller policy on this trip?

No single traveller surcharge applies if you're travelling alone and are comfortable sharing a tent with another same-sex traveller on the tour. If you'd prefer your own tent, the single traveller rate applies instead.

How fit do I need to be for this 4-day trip?

This is primarily a vehicle-based safari, with light walking around camps and towns. It suits most fitness levels, including the optional activities in Swakopmund, which range from relaxed sightseeing to more energetic options like quad biking and sandboarding.

Will I see the Big Five at Etosha?

Etosha holds healthy populations of lion, elephant, buffalo and both white and black rhino, with leopard and cheetah also present though less frequently seen. Two full days of game drives, including a flood-lit waterhole visit, give good odds of strong sightings, though as with any wildlife safari no individual sighting can be guaranteed.

What's included in the price?

The price covers park fees for non-residents, all activities unless labelled as optional, all accommodation unless listed as an upgrade, a professional driver-guide, all transportation unless labelled as optional, all taxes and VAT, roundtrip airport transfers, and the meals specified in the day-by-day itinerary. International flights, drinks, some meals as specified, additional accommodation before or after the tour, optional activities in Swakopmund, tips and personal items such as souvenirs, travel insurance and visa fees are not included.

What about visas and travel insurance?

Most nationalities can enter Namibia visa-free for short tourist stays, though requirements vary by passport, so check current rules before booking. Travel insurance covering medical evacuation is recommended for any safari trip.
