Naitolia Eco-Lodge
Naitolia Eco-Lodge sits deep in the Tarangire Conservation Area, a 55 sq km wildlife management area of acacia and baobab that spans part of the wildlife migration route into Tarangire National Park. Reached via a rough dirt road that guests describe as well worth the journey, Naitoliaβs pioneering, completely eco-friendly design β built entirely from local materials β has drawn attention from conservation organisations and is unlike anything else in northern Tanzania.
Rooms
Rooms are built in an African banda style with stone and grass walls beneath grass-thatched roofs. The only concession to modernity is the front-facing canvas and shade-cloth wall with mosquito netting, giving uninterrupted views over the open Lemiyon Plains directly from a large four-poster wooden bed. Bathrooms are semi-enclosed with outdoor bucket showers and toilets, and battery-operated lanterns provide lighting after dark.
Camp Areas
A candle-lit dining area seats up to six guests alongside a bar and small library opening onto the savannah. The dining tent and food quality are consistently praised, with abundant fresh fruit and vegetables.
Activities
Guided walking safaris with Maasai guides from nearby Lemooti village, night safaris with spotlighting, and exceptional birdwatching across the Lemiyon Plains and surrounding acacia-baobab woodland. Guests frequently describe Naitolia as one of the few genuine wilderness lodges anywhere.

Naitolia Eco-Lodge is a genuinely distinctive addition to the Tarangire area β its entirely local-material, eco-friendly banda construction and remote Tarangire Conservation Area setting deliver a wilderness intensity that guests repeatedly describe as unmatched anywhere. The outdoor bucket showers and four-poster beds facing open plains views trade conventional luxury for authenticity, and the birdwatching and Maasai-guided walking safaris are particular highlights. Best suited to experienced safari travellers seeking genuine remoteness rather than first-time visitors wanting full creature comforts.β The SafariBando team
