11-Day Luxury Tanzania Couple Safari + Zanzibar (Fly-In)

Overview

This 11-day fly-in safari is built for couples seeking genuine luxury with minimal time spent in transit. It opens with safari time around the Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara, continues with four nights at an exclusive lodge deep in the Serengeti, and finishes with five days at one of Zanzibar's top-rated luxury beach resorts. Flights replace road transfers between each stage, so more of your trip is spent experiencing each destination rather than traveling between them.

The Ngorongoro stage is based at a working coffee farm in the foothills near the crater, offering both guided game drives and a wide range of on-site activities. The Serengeti stage is based at a remote luxury lodge with both vehicle and walking safaris, with a strong focus on the Great Migration during the July to October season. Zanzibar closes the trip with watersports, diving, cultural activities and plenty of laid-back beach time at one of the island's most highly rated properties.

Frequently asked questions

Why fly between each stage instead of driving?

Flying replaces what would otherwise be multiple long road transfers between Ngorongoro, the Serengeti and Zanzibar, so more of your 11 days are spent actually experiencing each destination rather than traveling between them. This is a meaningful part of what makes this itinerary feel genuinely relaxed despite covering three very different parts of Tanzania.

What level of luxury should we expect?

This itinerary uses some of the most highly regarded properties in each region, a working coffee farm lodge near Ngorongoro, a remote luxury camp deep in the Serengeti with private plunge pools, and a top-rated beach resort in Zanzibar. Expect individually designed accommodation, all-inclusive board at most stages, and a genuinely high standard throughout.

How fit do I need to be for this trip?

The Ngorongoro and Serengeti stages offer both vehicle-based and walking safaris, walking is optional and paced to suit you, accompanied by an experienced guide. The Zanzibar stage is almost entirely at your own pace, with optional watersports and diving available for those who want them.

What's included in the price?

Prices include all internal flights, transfers, reserve fees, accommodation and meals as specified in the day-by-day itinerary. International flights, tipping, visa fees, and any meals not specifically included are not covered. See the full "What's included" and "Not included" sections on this page for the complete breakdown.

Why do prices vary so much depending on when we travel?

Tanzania and Zanzibar both have multiple seasonal rate changes throughout the year, and the properties used on this itinerary offer several different room categories, both of which significantly affect total cost. The price shown is an approximate starting point; we'll confirm accurate costings once we know your preferred travel dates.

Can we do this trip without the Zanzibar extension?

Yes, our 7-Day Fly-in Luxury Tanzania Couple Safari covers the same Ngorongoro and Serengeti stages without the additional 5 days in Zanzibar, a good option if beach time isn't a priority for your honeymoon or anniversary trip.

What about visas and travel insurance?

Most nationalities can obtain a Tanzania tourist visa online via the eTA system before travel, or on arrival (this covers Zanzibar as part of Tanzania). The visa costs USD 50 for most nationalities and USD 100 for US citizens. Comprehensive travel insurance covering medical evacuation is recommended for all travelers.

What's the best time of year for the Great Migration in the North Serengeti?

July to October is the Great Migration season in this part of the Serengeti, when large herbivore herds move through the Mara River area near your lodge. Outside this window, the Serengeti is still excellent for resident wildlife and the Big Five, but the specific migration spectacle near this lodge is most reliable during these months.
