4-Day Akagera National Park Wildlife Safaris in Rwanda

Your journey begins with a scenic 2.5-hour drive from Kigali to Akagera National Park. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of Rwanda’s rolling hills and picturesque countryside.

Before entering the park, participate in authentic community experiences where you will engage with local residents and learn about traditional basket weaving, banana beer production, cultural dances, and other heritage practices.

Upon arrival at Akagera, check in at your lodge and relax before heading out for a sunset boat safari on Lake Ihema. This tranquil cruise offers excellent sightings of hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species, all set against a beautiful African sunset.

Start your day early with an unforgettable hot air balloon safari at sunrise. As you float above the savannah, enjoy breathtaking aerial views of lakes, woodlands, and open plains while spotting wildlife from above — including elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and possibly lions.

After landing, enjoy a bush breakfast in the wilderness before continuing with a half-day game drive to explore different sections of the park and search for the Big Five and other wildlife species.

Return to the lodge in the afternoon for leisure and relaxation.

After breakfast, embark on a full-day game drive across Akagera National Park. Explore diverse ecosystems including savannah plains, wetlands, and woodland areas. Look out for elephants, lions, rhinos, leopards, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and a wide range of birdlife.

In the late afternoon, transfer to Karenge Bush Camp for a more intimate and authentic wilderness experience. Enjoy the sounds of nature and the serenity of the African bush.

After a relaxed morning, depart Akagera for a scenic drive back to Kigali.

Upon arrival, enjoy lunch in the city before visiting Fazenda Sengha Recreation Center, located on Mount Kigali — the highest hill in Kigali. The location offers panoramic views of the city and surrounding countryside. Depending on your time and preference, you may participate in optional activities such as horse riding, quad biking, archery, and ziplining.

Later, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
