The rainforest is alive with the calls of colourful birds and the chattering of the rare golden monkey, with fresh signs of the mountains’ elusive buffalo and elephant populations along the way. Frequently asked questions

How fit do I need to be for gorilla trekking?

The trek involves walking on uneven, sometimes steep forest terrain, and can be physically demanding. Reasonable fitness, sturdy closed shoes and trekking poles (available locally) are recommended.

How are gorilla permits handled?

One gorilla permit per person, at non-resident rates, is included in the tour price and booked well in advance, since daily permit numbers are limited at Volcanoes National Park.

When is the best time of year for gorilla trekking?

Trekking is possible year-round, but the two dry seasons, from June to September and December to February, offer easier trail conditions. The wetter months can mean muddier treks but fewer visitors on the trails.

What's included in the price?

The price covers park fees for non-residents, one gorilla permit per person, all activities unless labelled as optional, all accommodation unless listed as an upgrade, a professional driver-guide, all transportation unless labelled as optional, all taxes and VAT, roundtrip airport transfers, and the meals and drinking water specified in the day-by-day itinerary. International flights, additional accommodation before or after the tour, some meals as specified, tips and personal items such as souvenirs, travel insurance and visa fees are not included.

Is this trip suitable for a short Rwanda visit?

Yes, this 4-day itinerary is built specifically for travellers with limited time, fitting gorilla trekking and a Kigali city tour into a tight but workable schedule alongside the necessary travel days to and from Volcanoes National Park.

What about visas and travel insurance?

Most nationalities can obtain a Rwanda tourist visa online before travel, and a regional East Africa visa covering Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya is also available. Travel insurance covering medical evacuation is strongly recommended given the remote forest terrain involved in trekking.
