Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge โ Rondavels on the Ridge Above the Endless Plains
Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge is an award-winning lodge set on a tree-clad acacia ridge in the western Serengeti, near the Grumeti River and with sweeping views across the "endless plains" after which the Serengeti takes its name. The architectural choice โ traditional circular stone-built rondavels with thatched roofs, designed to melt into the landscape โ creates an African village atmosphere on the ridge rather than a hotel, and the vanishing-horizon infinity pool at the ridge edge looking out over the plains is one of the most photographed pools in East Africa.
The Serena Hotels group has operated the lodge for many years, and the consistency of its management has made it a reliable Northern Circuit fixture. With 66 rooms (65 standard rondavels and one premium Serengeti Suite), it accommodates groups, families and individual travellers equally well. Reviews from late 2025 and early 2026 praise the location, views, pool setting and value โ "great value for money" is a consistent theme from guests who expected less and received more.
Accommodation
Sixty-five standard rondaval chalets are individually furnished with hand-carved African wood furniture, bright local textiles and private balconies with sweeping Serengeti plains views. Each has an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning and premium bedding. The one Serengeti Suite adds a separate sitting room, dressing area, private entrance and a luxurious marble-finished bathroom. The main lodge building has a restaurant, bar, lounge, cultural gift shop and the iconic infinity pool. Serengeti sunsets from the pool terrace are a signature experience.
Activities
Game drives into the western Serengeti corridor for the Migration crossing at the Grumeti River (June-July), and year-round for the resident wildlife. Hot-air balloon safaris at dawn over the Serengeti plains. Guided bush walks. Evening Maasai cultural dances at the lodge. Sundowners on the ridge.
Who Is Serengeti Serena Best For?
The Serena is the best large-lodge option in the western Serengeti corridor for travellers who want the rondavel architecture, the vanishing pool, the Migration corridor access and a reliable full-service experience at a mid-to-luxury price. It suits groups and families who want the social atmosphere of a larger lodge alongside game drives, as well as couples who want the infinity pool and sunset views without boutique camp prices.

Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge is the most architecturally distinctive large lodge in the Serengeti. The rondavel village design, the vanishing-horizon infinity pool and the Grumeti corridor position for the Migration crossing create a stay that consistently surprises guests with its quality relative to expectations. At $403-990 per room depending on season, it represents good value for the full-service Serena experience. Our recommendation for groups and families who want the western corridor and a pool with a view โ the sunset from the ridge is a Serengeti highlight.โ The SafariBando team
