Sueños de África (Spanish for "Dreams of Africa") is an independently owned eco-luxury camp situated in the Banagi area of the central Serengeti, approximately 25 minutes from Seronera Airstrip and 5 minutes from the famous Retima Hippo Pool. The camp was established and is run by its Spanish founding family, and the European sensibility shows in the quality of the tent construction, the furniture design (all handmade by local artisans in noble wood), and the kitchen — which blends Tanzanian flavours with Spanish cooking techniques to produce menus that guests consistently rate as exceptional.

The central Serengeti location near Banagi provides year-round access to resident game including lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo and a remarkable diversity of birdlife. The Retima Hippo Pool is one of the most accessible and densely populated hippo sites in the Serengeti, visible within 5 minutes of camp. The Seronera Valley's famous leopard territory is nearby. During the migration, the herds pass through the central Serengeti en route north (March–June) and south (November–December).

Accommodation

Ten tented suites — eight standard and two family — are raised on platforms with generous proportions: the standard tents are 80 square metres each, while family tents are 100 square metres with two en-suite bedrooms and a shared sitting room with Serengeti views. All tents use high-quality fire-retardant canvas, can open fully on one side to bring in the bush atmosphere, and have outdoor terraces ideal for watching sunsets. Inside, handcrafted noble-wood furniture, custom mattresses and quality linen create an atmosphere that is both designed and genuinely comfortable. En-suite bathrooms have flush toilets and bush showers with hot water.

The camp has a swimming pool — unusual at this price point in the central Serengeti — and a dining area with menus prepared by a trained chef. The social atmosphere is warm and family-like, typical of an owner-run property where returning guests are greeted by name.

Activities

Morning and afternoon game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, bush walks in the vicinity of camp, hot-air balloon safaris, and cultural community visits are the core activities. The proximity to the Retima Hippo Pool allows late-afternoon sundowner visits on foot — one of the better wildlife-watching rituals available in the central Serengeti.
