2-Day Tanzania Safari - Tarangire & Ngorongoro Crater

This is a vehicle-based safari, no fitness threshold applies and no walking is required. Game drives are conducted from a private 4x4 with a pop-up roof, giving everyone a clear view and space to stand for photographs. Travellers with limited mobility are accommodated, let us know in advance and we'll select lodges with step-free access and brief your guide on any specific needs.

June to October is the dry season, when animals concentrate around water sources and Tarangire's elephant herds are at their largest along the river. January and February offer warm, dry weather and good general game viewing with fewer crowds. The long rains in April and May can affect road conditions and game-drive comfort but come with the lowest rates of the year. The Ngorongoro Crater is productive year-round thanks to its enclosed ecosystem and resident wildlife.

In Tarangire, expect large elephant herds, often 30 to 100 animals, alongside giraffe, zebra, buffalo, impala and a wide range of birdlife around the baobabs and river. In the Ngorongoro Crater, lion, elephant, buffalo and hippo are routine sightings, with one of Tanzania's most reliable chances of spotting black rhino on the crater floor. Leopard is possible in both parks but elusive. No operator can guarantee specific sightings, wildlife movement varies day to day.

The price covers a private 4x4 safari vehicle with pop-up roof and English-speaking driver-guide, all park entry and conservation fees including the Ngorongoro Crater service fee, one night's accommodation in the Karatu area with the meals specified, and drinking water throughout. Two days is enough to get a genuine taste of both Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater, two very different and high-quality parks, without long additional driving. If your schedule allows, our 3-Day Tanzania Lodge Safari adds Lake Manyara, and the 4-Day version extends into the Serengeti itself for a fuller Northern Circuit experience. Many travelers use this 2-day format as a standalone short break or as an add-on before or after a Kilimanjaro climb or Zanzibar stay.

Yes, the short format and full-board lodge accommodation make this an easy option for families, including those with younger children who might struggle with longer multi-day itineraries. Most lodges in the Karatu area offer family rooms or interconnecting tents. Let us know ages in advance so we can select accommodation and pace the game drives accordingly.

Most nationalities can obtain a Tanzania tourist visa online via the eTA system before travel, or on arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport. The visa costs USD 50 for most nationalities and USD 100 for US citizens. Comprehensive travel insurance covering medical evacuation is recommended for all safari travelers, and we can arrange membership with the Flying Doctors Service on request.
