This Gombe day trip departs from Kigoma each morning by boat across Lake Tanganyika to Gombe Stream National Park — the site of Dr Jane Goodall's landmark chimpanzee research, begun in 1960. The day includes guided chimpanzee trekking through the forested valleys and ridges of Gombe, a walk to the Kakombe Waterfalls, and a picnic lunch at a viewpoint overlooking Lake Tanganyika. The return boat journey arrives back in Kigoma in the late afternoon.
The day trip is ideal for travellers with limited time who still want to experience chimpanzee trekking at Gombe. For a deeper visit with two tracking sessions and an overnight stay inside the park, see our 2-day Gombe chimpanzee trekking package.
