Mbeya is a city in southwest Tanzania. It sits at the base of soaring Loleza Peak, between the Mbeya and Poroto mountain ranges. On the town's outskirts is Lake Ngozi, a huge crater lake surrounded by dense forest rich in birdlife. Kitulo Plateau National Park, southeast of the city, is known for its colorful wild flowers. Farther south is Matema Beach, a resort town on the shores of the vast, fish-filled Lake Nyasa.  Mbeya is also called the Scotland of Africa. The Mbeya region has many interesting tourist attractions; high mountain peaks, exciting waterfalls, green lakes, a meteorite and the garden of God.

 The historic native tribes of the Mbeya region are of Bantu origin, and it is thought that they have lived there for a very long period. They are the Sangu, Safwa, Nyakyusa, Ndali, Kinga, Wanji, Lambya, Nyiha, Wungu, Kimbu & Rungwa. 

The thriving city of Mbeya sprawls in the shadow of Loleza Peak (2,656m). Tea, coffee, cocoa and bananas are grown in this scenic, lush and mountainous area. The cool climate is perfect for walks, botanical excursions and fantastic views over the hills.

Mbeya City is easily accessible by road, rail, and air travel. It is part of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) and is served by the Songwe International Airport.
